St Giles Church

Church Street
Matlock
Derbyshire
DE4 3BZ

St Giles C of E church dates back to Norman times though was fully renovated in the Victorian era with the former chancel being rebuilt in 1859, though a part of the north wall, containing a medieval aumbry which is concealed behind modern oak doors was left standing. The church is very much a product of the Victorian era with its heavy mullions and tracery.
The churchyard deserves inspection with some of the older parts containing monuments dating back to the seventeenth century.

Our Lady and St Joseph's

Matlock,
Derbyshire

Described on its own website and by many visitors to weekend Mass as “small but beautiful” Our Lady & St Joseph’s Church can accommodate an overflow of additional worshippers in the church with a video link to our new Community Hall. The church is open all day for those who simply want to come and pray quietly in an atmosphere enhanced by their belief in the presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.
Liturgy for children, outreach to the sick and housebound, even breakfast together, support of Aids Programmes in Africa and Fairtrade are among the things which are meant to show their commitment to the Catholic Faith.

When the Church was modernised in 1997 it was extended renovated in a £500,000 project allowing for the Worship Centre to be transformed with individual and comfortable chairs that easily facilitate different seating layouts.

In 2002 they added a new sound system allowing the flexibility of a 16 channel mixing desk and superb sound quality. With a new lighting installation they are also able to offer  highly economical lamps that provide good lighting.

With these three primary factors combined with an efficient controlled gas central heating system, Matlock's Methodist and United Reform Church are able to offer a Worship Centre that not only provides the community with a comfortable, modern environment for worship,  but also allows Church facilities to be used as a venue for concerts, performances and meetings that brings people into this House of God to Worship in many different ways.
